The Royal Institute of Art is situated in central Stockholm, which is home to one of the most dynamic international art scenes in Northern Europe. The institute collaborates with a variety of art institutions including Moderna Museet, Kulturhuset, Tensta Konsthall, Botkyrka Konsthall and IASPIS for exhibitions, lectures and conferences.
• Master programme in Fine Arts (120 ECTS-credits) is a two-year course developing critical thinking and student-led artistic practice. Within the studies the students produce a master essay, a public solo exhibition and take part within a public group show with their peers.
• Five-year programme in Fine Arts (300 ECTS-credits) It is possible to obtain a BA and a MA degree from this programme. The BA consists of three years of practice and studies, culminating in a public group exhibition.
• Guest student programme (60 ECTS-credits), a programme intended for foreign or Swedish students who study at a higher art institution abroad or have just graduated from a comparable institution.
• Professional Artist's Development courses (60/30 ECTS-credits) are available for professionally active practitioners wishing to expand technical skills and produce artwork. Project studies are offered in the following areas: Fine Art Printing, Glass, Printmaking, Interactive techniques, Internet-related media, Photography, Sculpture and Video.
• Mejan Residents, is a one-year (60 ECTS-credit) full-time course. Providing students with production funding the Mejan Residents projects are designed for shorter practice-led artistic research projects. The target group of applicants is professional practitioners on an international level within their artistic field such as artists, architects, critics, curators, filmmakers and more.

Developed by Independent Curators International (ICI) in collaboration with Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) Derry~Londonderry, the Curatorial Intensive "From 'Official History' to Underrepresented Narratives" will examine the role of cultural production in addressing geopolitical landscapes and recent histories. The week-long program will take the concepts of narrative and memory as the theoretical and poetic underpinning to reflect upon recent social developments in specific geographies, while questioning the ability of art and exhibition-making to act as catalyst for change.

Through an international roster of speakers, "From 'Official History' to Underrepresented Narratives" will consider the tension between remembrance and forgetting, and the role of art and cultural institutions in creating a discourse of national identity and giving visibility to overlooked histories. Seminars, site visits, individual meetings, and roundtable discussions will be led by the following faculty: Miguel Amado (Curator, the Portuguese Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennale), Mai Abu ElDahab (independent curator), Annie Fletcher (Curator of Exhibitions at the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, and tutor at De Appel, Amsterdam), Khwezi Gule (Chief Curator, Soweto Museums), Peter Jenkinson (independent cultural broker and Co-Director, Culture+Conflict), and Paul Ramírez Jonas (artist and Assistant Professor, Hunter College, New York), among others.

Application guidelinesVisit ICI's website to apply for the Curatorial Intensive online. All applications must include a 300-word description of a program idea that the applicant would like help in developing. This description should outline the proposal concept and any artists that the applicant is considering. Also required are a current 250-word bio, a 500-word letter of intent, and a 300-word text that describes a recent curatorial project that has made an impact on the applicant.

Fees and scholarshipsThe program fee is 1,900 USD. Participants are also responsible for covering travel and accommodation expenses. Scholarship packages that subsidize or eliminate the program fees, accommodation, and travel expenses are available and awarded based on merit. Scholarships for Northern Irish participants will be supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Turkish nationals can apply for scholarships provided by SAHA.

About the Curatorial IntensiveThe Curatorial Intensive is ICI's short-term, low-cost training program that offers 12–14 curators the chance to develop project ideas and make connections with professionals in the field. It also provides the invaluable opportunity for peer-group education, forging new networks internationally. The Curatorial Intensive takes place twice annually in New York, and in other locations in conjunction with institutional partners worldwide. To date there have been 11 Curatorial Intensives including one in Brazil and China, and two each in Mumbai and Philadelphia. Since 2010, ICI has received 768 applications from curators in 63 countries. In two years 165 curators have participated in the programs from 39 countries and 19 U.S. states.

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna invites applications to its doctoral program for research in artistic practice. The PhD in Practice program provides participants with the opportunity to pursue their individual research projects in a collective learning environment with a decidedly transdisciplinary and international bent. The program is coordinated by Renate Lorenz (Professor for Art and Research) and Anette Baldauf (Professor for Methodology and Epistemology). The invited lecturers and guests include Maurizio Lazzarato, Ángela López Ruiz, Angela Melitopoulos, Suzana Milevska, Trinh T. Minh-ha, Lidija Radojević, and Elisabeth Subrin.

The ProgramThe PhD in Practice program is built on a concept of arts-based research that relates to critical epistemologies as they have been developed in the context of feminist, queer, postcolonial, ecological, postmarxist and other political and emancipatory projects. Inspired by these struggles, the PhD in Practice program approaches arts-based research as a space for the negotiation of social, political, cultural and economic conflicts. It refers to a history of research in the arts, which has been developed in dialog with an array of different fields, including academia, activism, and high art as much as pop and subculture. It thus privileges cultural productions, which are concerned with a critique of injustice, social hierarchies and exclusions, and it is interested in the development of heterotopic visions as well as activist interventions. By engaging with these trajectories, the conditions and foundations of knowledge production in the arts field have itself been turned into a subject matter of basic research.
The PhD in Practice program is designed for a period of four years of study. During this time the participants will develop and implement their projects analytically and experimentally in coordination with the academic and artistic team of co-participants and faculty. Participants learn how to write texts, and to conceive, organize, document, as well as carry out independent and/or collaborative research in an environment that is dedicated to transdisciplinary and international exchange.
Course work is offered in the context of so-called focus weeks, which take place one week per month during the academic calendar (October to January, March to June). This low-residency scheme enables participants to take part and pursue their project without having to move permanently to Vienna (as much as this should be seen as an option). During these weeks the participants and the PhD in Practice team meet for tutorials, seminars, lectures, workshops, excursions and other research and learning events. The PhD in Practice participants have access to the facilities and resources of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and to the institutions and people that form the broader and expanding network of the Academy. Moreover, participants are expected to take an active part in organizing the program, including the conceptualization and organization of coordinating workshops, guest lectures, conferences, exhibitions, screenings, etc.
Entry requirementsRequirements for admission to the PhD in Practice program are a degree (Magister, MA or diploma) from a recognized university, and the submission of a portfolio and a written project proposal. Applicants who are already engaged in an artistic or academic career are especially encouraged to apply.
The application is online only. Applications (to be written in English) must be received by February 28, 2013, following the online application procedure explained on the website of the program.
The results of the application process will be published by May 15, 2013.Admitted candidates will embark on the PhD in Practice program in October 2013.

	Ashkal Alwan is currently accepting applications to the 3rd edition of Home Workspace Program (HWP), with resident professors Jalal Toufic and Anton Vidokle. Creating and Dispersing Universes that Work without WorkingThematically divided into two chapters, led by Toufic and Vidokle consecutively, the program will focus on artistic concerns ranging from how to build and/or disperse a universe that doesn't fall apart 'two days' later, to an inquiry into work in art practice and the possibility of its deactivation and (thus) of sovereign art. The program will be comprised of a seminar by Jalal Toufic that draws on cinema, art, literature and science; exhibitions and publishing projects organized by Anton Vidokle in collaboration with students, visiting artists and e-flux journal, as well as independent research and artistic projects by the program's participants. The program will loosely follow a process of making a film, including postproduction. Program InformationThe HWP is an annual, interdisciplinary arts program launched by Ashkal Alwan in 2011. The program targets emerging artists and cultural practitioners who wish to develop their formal, historical, and critical skills and practice in a supportive environment in Beirut. Each edition or class of the HWP runs for 10 months, led by a different Resident Professor(s) / RP(s) each year and admitting 10–15 participants. Part academic, part practice-based, the curriculum consists of lectures, workshops and seminars by the RP(s) and other leading local and international artists, writers, thinkers, filmmakers, curators, etc. Participants work on collective projects, as well as develop their own in coordination with the RP(s), visiting professors, and assigned mentors. In addition to the curriculum, participants also benefit from a support network of individuals, professionals, venues and resources around Beirut and elsewhere in Lebanon. Participants are expected to reside in Beirut for 10 months with limited outside engagements, to participate actively in the various activities initiated by the RP(s) and visiting guests, and to develop and produce a project. The HWP 2013–14 will start in September 2013. Lebanese, Arab and international applicants are all encouraged to apply. CalArts is seeking a dean that will provide the visionary leadership to build upon the current vigorous state of the school as it enters the next stage in an already distinguished history, combining a keen interest in the legacy of CalArts with an openness to forward-looking technologies and ways of thinking. S/He will lead the faculty in articulating and elaborating the school's future perspective and will represent the school externally to ensure visibility and support. Strong communication skills are required as the dean has a critical responsibility to engage with a range of audiences, from donors and supporters, to practicing artists, filmmakers and industry leaders, to students and parents. A deep knowledge of cinema in all its forms of expression is essential, as is a commitment to the language of film culture in the context of wide-ranging experimentation, open to all varieties of image making. The dean will be conversant with the concerns and constituencies of experimental and independent cinema, and the evolving film/animation industries, interested in the productive tension between these arenas and able to move between them effectively to ensure that CalArts supports our students in realizing their career goals. The dean must be someone of distinguished accomplishment as an artist/film-maker, curator, scholar or critic, with a record of outstanding work commensurate with the internationally-recognized standing of the school. Extensive teaching and administrative experience are desirable, as are strong organizational skills and the ability to productively balance consensus-building and decision-making. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in creative production and interdisciplinary, critical thinking, and s/he will have the possibility of teaching, as well as mentoring students and guiding student projects at her/his discretion. The dean will collaborate with the president and the Office of Advancement and External Affairs to identify sources of funding and to develop grants for technology, project production and completion to ensure that the school remains at a top level in all its programs and production capabilities. The dean will also participate actively in Deans' Council with the provost and the deans of the other schools, playing a key leadership role in managing human and fiscal resources in support of institutional priorities. The ability to work collaboratively with leaders in all forms of contemporary arts distinguishes the creative ecology of the Institute. The school consists of five programs, all of which emphasize the individual work of their students through teaching, mentoring and guidance in their professional and artistic growth. The MFA at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT) is a two-year study program with a focus on studio work and corresponding theoretical practices. Students are offered the possibility to work within a wide range of media and theoretical fields. There is a particular focus on research-based artistic practice and the understanding of art as laboratory. The MFA program prepares the student to develop a professional artistic profile, and to contextualize their work in relation to contemporary theory and historical informed positions. Projects evolve through stages of conceptual and material development towards formal and informal presentation and critical, constructive debate. A collaborative course within the Master Program is Art & Common Space; it involves students from the Architecture as well as the Fine Art Department. With residencies in Tuscany, Venice, Berlin, Paris, New York, and at Brown University, IDSVA offers the first and only low-residency PhD in philosophy and art theory designed for visual artist and creative thinkers. About IDSVAThe Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts provides doctoral studies in philosophy, aesthetics, and art theory to visual artists and scholars who approach their work as a creative practice. The IDSVA course of study is made up of three interrelated academic programs: Topological Studies, Seminars, and Independent Studies. Each of these programs focuses on the historical relation between art and ideas. Over the three-year course of study, the programs overlap and intersect, illuminating from three blended perspectives the ever-shifting, ever-volatile relationship between art and ideas. The coursework blends distance learning with intensive residencies at Spannocchia Castle in Tuscany, the Venice Biennale, Paris, New York City, Berlin and Providence, Rhode Island. With completion of the course of study, students take qualifying exams. The dissertation takes on average an additional two years to complete. Total time to complete the degree is about five years. IDSVA students work directly with internationally renowned artists and thinkers. One self-designed independent study and one seminar course per semester comprise the three-year curriculum. Seminar courses commence in residency and continue online. Online coursework and independent studies are pursued through the fall and spring semester and include regular one-on-one faculty/student conferences, study group discussion and collaboration, and project research conducted through IDSVA's virtual library. IDSVA seeks candidates engaged in an established studio practice or similar creative practice (e.g., architecture, curatorial studies, criticism of art and/or visual culture, art history) who wish to develop their critical and scholarly interests through the rigorous study of philosophy, aesthetics, and theory. Research in and through artistic practice Application deadlines:  April 1, 2013 or October 1, 2013 info@phdarts.euwww.phdarts.eu PhDArts offers an international, high-level doctorate in art and design at Leiden University and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, The Netherlands. The PhDArts research trajectory consists of two elements: individual research and participation in the doctoral study programme. An appropriate team of supervisors is sought for each doctoral student. The doctoral study programme, which consists of lectures, seminars, trainings, and workshops, is an essential part of the research environment in which the student undertakes his or her research. Research in and through art is an inseparable part of the artistic or design practice of the researcher. Consequently, research in art (as opposed to research about art, such as art history) does not have a set goal or expected result, nor are there predetermined general procedures. The outcome of the research is open. This openness is a condition for conducting research in art and design. There is a unique relationship between the artist/designer, the research method and the outcome of the research. This research is only possible thanks to the artist's artistry and, the other way round, the artist develops his artistry through the research. The outcome is therefore an artistic product, combined with a discursive product, the dissertation, which does justice to the artistic one. This final result of this type of research, which is by its nature speculative, cannot be restricted to one particular form. The criteria for the form the research may take are therefore kept as open as possible. Also, there is no fixed ratio between dissertation and artistic production. The requirements that the research must satisfy and the researcher's methodology derive in part from the assignment that the artist or designer has given himself.
