Application deadline: February 1, 2013 Admission info session: Friday, January 18, 2013, 12–3pmroski.usc.edu The MFA Program at the University of Southern California (USC) Roski School of Fine Arts is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 academic year. The two-year studio-based degree program, based in the center of Los Angeles, accepts eight students each fall, providing a highly rigorous and individualized experience. Its interdisciplinary nature encourages wide-ranging experimental and intellectual exploration. Students work closely with an internationally recognized core faculty comprising Jud Fine, Sharon Lockhart, Frances Stark, and Charlie White, as well as visiting faculty members such as Allen Ruppersberg, Sadie Benning, Ali Subotnick, Paul Sietsema, and A.L. Steiner. Beyond the core faculty, MFA students work with an expanded community of professional artists, critics, and curators, including other members of the Roski School faculty, who participate in the weekly lecture series, teach critical-studies courses, conduct studio visits, and serve on thesis committees. Recent Visiting Graduate Instructors have included Bruce Hainley, Paul Chan, Britt Salvesen, Glenn Phillips, Noura Wedell, and Stanya Kahn. Fall admission only.The MFA Program curriculum consists of critique classes, workshops, critical studies classes, regular individual studio visits with faculty and guest lecturers, electives that provide access to the incredibly rich offerings available at USC, and a weekly lecture series that hosts all-day visits by prominent artists, curators, critics, and historians. Recent guest lecturers have included Martha Rosler, Douglas Crimp, Charline von Heyl, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Andrea Fraser, Thomas Demand, Trisha Donnelly, Mark Leckey, Yvonne Rainer, Liz Larner, Laura Owens, Sam Durant, Allan McCollum, Edgar Arceneaux, Miwon Kwon, Nicole Eisenman, Vanessa Beecroft, Sterling Ruby, Jan Verwoert, Dana Schutz, Tony Conrad, and Raymond Pettibon.Recent MFA alumni include:• Amanda Ross-Ho (MFA 2006) had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2012. Her work has previously been included in group exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the New Museum, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach; the 2008 Whitney Biennial; and the Saatchi Gallery, London.• Elad Lassry (MFA 2007) was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2009. His work has also appeared in group exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux, France; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow; and the Galleria Civica D'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Turin, Italy, as well as being featured in the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011.• Dianna Molzan (MFA 2009) was the subject of a 2011 solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Hammer Museum at UCLA and the Rubell Family Collection/Contemporary Arts Foundation in Miami.• Sarah Anderson (MFA 2011) is part of the two-person musical group Lucky Dragons, and co-founder of the Sumi Ink Club. The Lucky Dragons perform internationally, including frequent shows at major art institutions such as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.Please visit the Program's website for more information. |
